Rosa Parks Transit Equity Scholarship

RYDE Racine, with support from the Mayor’s Office, are sponsoring a Rosa Parks Transit Equity Scholarship to acknowledge and commemorate the contributions of Rosa Parks, as well as local civil rights leaders, including Corinne Reid-Owens, that have meaningfully improved residents’ lives.

Students must live and attend high school in the City of Racine and will be graduating high school in 2023. To apply, you will need to complete this application, write an essay (instructions below) and submit a letter of recommendation from a trusted adult (This letter can be emailed or delivered separately. It must be received by Tuesday, February 28, 2022).

The scholarship winner will receive $1,000 to support their post-high school education plans.

Essay

You are invited to submit a short essay inspired by Parks’ quote, “Each person must live their life as a model for others.” What does this statement mean to you? Please give examples of how this applies to you. You may also give examples of people who are role models or are an inspiration to you. Your essay must be typewritten and double-spaced (250 words minimum, 500 words maximum). Use Arial font and a 12-pt. font size.
